Ciitizen Earns AHIMA dHealth™ Approval by Demonstrating a Commitment to Protect Patient Data

CHICAGO – August 19, 2021 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) announced today that Ciitizen has been designated AHIMA dHealth™ Approved for its commitment to protecting personal health data. Ciitizen is a patient-centric consumer health technology platform that enables patients to collect, store and share their medical records in a single location for more personalized treatment options, including rapid participation in clinical trials.

AHIMA, the recognized leader in healthcare information, is a staunch advocate of healthcare data privacy. To help safeguard newly available patient data, AHIMA partnered with Moxe, a leader in clinical data exchange, to develop AHIMA dHealth. This innovative new program reviews digital health products for compliance with established patient data and privacy standards.

AHIMA dHealth offers digital health companies an opportunity to pass a self-reported data assessment and achieve the coveted AHIMA dHealth seal of approval. The AHIMA dHealth Approved seal demonstrates that digital health companies adhere to best practices in patient privacy and data security. The assessment is particularly relevant for digital health products that are not regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Ciitizen will be highlighted on AHIMAdHealth.org, an online directory of more than 1,200 digital health companies. The directory is available to healthcare organizations for fast, easy access to critical information regarding a product’s privacy and security policies.

“I’m so pleased Ciitizen is AHIMA dHealth Approved, as they have a patient-focused mission,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “Being AHIMA dHealth Approved shows that a digital health company values the privacy and security of personal health information and I commend Ciitizen for their commitment to protecting patient data.”

Moxe CEO and founder, Dan Wilson, explained his rationale for investing in the development of AHIMA dHealth. "As the digital health landscape expands and evolves, it’s more important now than ever for digital health companies to differentiate themselves to providers and consumers. The AHIMA dHealth program allows companies like Ciitizen to show their commitment to protecting patient data," said Wilson.

Ciitizen’s Founder and CEO Anil Sethi said the company is honored to become AHIMA dHealth Approved.

“Since day one, privacy has been a top priority for Ciitizen, and we follow three guiding principles when we engage with patient health information: transparency, security, and control,” Sethi said. “Becoming AHIMA dHealth Approved is another way to show how seriously we take the patient’s privacy. I believe patient control of health information can change the world, and I’m proud Ciitizen has earned this seal of approval from AHIMA.”

With the explosion of new digital health offerings available to consumers, Harris said there’s more reason than ever for companies to demonstrate they are committed to protecting patients’ personal electronic health information.

“Becoming AHIMA dHealth Approved is a great way to show providers, patients, and other stakeholders that you value privacy and data security, which can help expand your audience and positively impact more users,” Harris said.
