Grace Award

Ninety years ago, the founder of AHIMA, Grace Whiting Myers, was a catalyst for change. She began this association on the conviction that advancements in the collection and organization of health information (HI) will invariably help medical professionals improve public health.

Today, the responsible collection, protection, and analysis of HI allows practitioners to provide effective care, innovative economic engines to run, researchers to make life-saving discoveries, and empowers individuals to maintain good health.

Due to Myers’ prescient vision, the AHIMA annual award bears her name: The Grace Award. The Grace Award honors healthcare delivery organizations for their innovative and novel approaches to using health information to deliver high-quality care to patients and for their contributions to our shared mission to Empowering People to Impact Health.®

AHIMA Presents 2023 Grace Award to AmeriHealth Caritas

The American Health Information Management Association congratulates AmeriHealth Caritas as 2023 Grace Award recipient. This year’s winner has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the patient care experience and population health, reducing capital costs, and a commitment to employee mentorship and volunteerism. They have truly exemplified what the Grace Award stands for and more,” said AHIMA President/Chair Jennifer Mueller, MBA, RHIA, SHIMSS, FACHE, FAHIMA. The Grace Award Committee noted that AmeriHealth Caritas continuously strives to provide innovative programs relying on HI to drive strategic partnerships around maternal health, food security, and mental health.

This year, AHIMA presented Amberwell Atchison with an honorable mention for its innovative focus on educating patients about their patient portal and high-quality, effective, and cost-efficient maternity care.

Recognize Your Organization’s Accomplishments

 

 

  • Qualified applicants demonstrate significant contributions to the healthcare industry, communities, and the HI field through advancement of the current AHIMA strategies.
  • An Honorable mention can be recommended at the discretion of the committee.
  • Applicants are encouraged to avoid including identifying information in the context of the award questions.
  • The application requires thoughtful consideration of these key areas:
    • HIM leadership development strategy and how it facilitates professional advancement
    • Structure, role, and job functions in
      • informatics and/or analytics
      • privacy and/or security
      • clinical documentation integrity
    • Turning data into information into action, and using informatics and analytics to gather healthcare data that supports the healthcare operations within your organization
    • Recent innovation(s) in health information that would differentiate your organization amongst peers in the industry
    • Empowering patients to optimize their health through management of their personal health information and the role of HI in this effort
    • Other noteworthy information regarding your organization which may be important related to the AHIMA Mission and Vision.
  • Award recipient will be recognized on AHIMA.org and published in various AHIMA publications and media sources.
  • Award recipient will be recognized at AHIMA24 and an engraved award will be presented as part of the Awards Ceremony, or otherwise provided if the award recipient is unable to attend.
  • A representative from the award recipient’s organization is encouraged to be present to receive their award, but it is not mandatory.
  • AHIMA will provide a representative from awarded organization:
    • Flight to Conference location
    • One (1) night in hotel (day prior to presentation)
    • Complimentary early registration to event
    • One (1) day incidental for one (1) person
  • A representative from the winning organization is invited to participate as a member of the Award Committee. This representative will serve on the Committee for a three-year term.
