AHIMA20 Virtual Conference Kicks Off Today

CHICAGO – October 14, 2020 – AHIMA20, the virtual annual conference of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), begins today and will feature more than 100 education sessions through Friday afternoon. Attendees will also have access to networking events, a virtual exhibit hall and much more.

AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE, said the AHIMA team has been working hard to prepare a valuable meeting experience for attendees.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has exhibited the critical importance of health data and health information,” Harris said. “AHIMA20 is a place where professionals and leaders can share and learn about best practices in this complex field.”

AHIMA20 will focus on health data and its educational topics include clinical documentation integrity; privacy and security; clinical coding; patient identification and matching; social determinants of health; organizational management and dynamic leadership; revenue cycle management; and many more.

The conference will take place on a robust digital platform that makes it easy and exciting for attendees to view sessions and engage with peers. Traditional standbys like a welcome reception, a general session, and a closing session—this year’s will be a closing happy hour with prize giveaways—are all included in the agenda. And for the second straight year, there will be a pitch competition. It will challenge attendees to consider how they might use health and human data to identify social determinants of health to improve patient outcomes and healthcare systems.

Harris said she is also pleased that Health Information Professionals Week (HIP Week®) has been rescheduled to coincide with AHIMA20.

“In the midst of this difficult time, I’m thrilled we’re celebrating HIP Week® during AHIMA20,” Harris said. “I look forward to recognizing the people who make this such a dynamic profession.”

Editor’s note: Reporters interested in covering the meeting as a credentialed journalist should email Mike Bittner, AHIMA’s media and communications manager.
